hi guys,

i know it must get boring answering the same questions from someone on their first post but i am thinking about buying a 9 month old Yam xt 660 tenere with 1400miles one previous owner with the full luggage pack for £4800 quid. i have scanned old forum posts and cant see any mention.

It is in immaculate condition in last years sandy colours.

I love the style of the bike, my last bike was a KTM LC4 but i had to get rid of it after flipping it in a pretty fancy wheelie gone wrong about 4 years ago :( .

I will use it mainly for commuting 58 miles to work and back each day but i would love to just get on a bike and go riding for a few weeks so i need something comfy for ultra long distance.

I cant find any reviews with anything bad to say about it but i am hoping for a few opinions from some experienced guys about ease of mainenance, whether it is suitable for what i want it for, good price? alternatives etc.

would be especially keen to hear off anyone who has one of these bikes.

Many thanks in advance

shad

I had one for a while - some pics on here somewhere , I am 6ft 5" and it is a tall bike with quite a high centre of gravity . Suspension etc works ok but not ideal for general trail riding in my opinion .

I geared mine down by 1 tooth on the front sprocket which helps at low speed , got stuck in deep ruts a couple of times but mine had engine bars/sumpguard and centre stand which didnt help .

Mud build up on the front of the swiningarm as there is no flap etc to guard it and the low mudguard eventually packs up with mud and stops the wheel turning .

Think the prices seem to have gone up a bit now mine had all the Yamaha "add ons" inc hard luggage .

Have a read on XT660.com for the problems , reg/rect connections , indicators losing their reflectors , corrosion ,condensation in speedo , stiff locks etc

Not brown :o http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/YAMAHA-XT660Z-TEN ... 286.c0.m14

Good bike for general use and lighter trail work IMO :D

Welcome to the forum :D

I'm gona have one of these sooner or later and I don't care what the reviews say

I think if your going to commute that sort of distance keeping on top of regular maintenance and cleaning will be the most important point no matter what you buy. Happy shopping :D

I've been using my brother-in-law's un-faired fazer whilst he has been holidaying in Iraq courtesy of her majesty. Really enjoyed it. Cracking bike I reckon :D
