Hey Rob, I always enjoy watching your rideout vid's, Tell me what do you use to mount the camera, and where do you mount it?

My camera goes on the bars same as Rob's. I think mine suffers with a wobbly pic sometimes on the TTR but you still get good quality and it looses some quality on youtube. Mine is the ATC3K. The mounting comes wth the camera.

Sorry on the slow answer Dan. Mines the earlier version of Mikes. They do get crap on them sometimes (Radnor vid is a good example) but you just have to keep checking and clean it to suit. Good little cameras really and shock and waterproof.

No Probs. I have got a DogCam Sport Camera, and a Lawmate HD recorder.... just trying to get the best placement at the moment..... I haven't quite worked out the correct angle for a helmet mount, it is just a bit low..... I guess I need patience!!

hi aceboy,

this may help, or not see what you think, just my thoughts:

i've done abit of recording video on bike footage sony pc9/10/archos with seperatly powered sony ccd camera etc but ended up with atc2k like robs due to small convenient package and less setup issues, also found when mounted on your lid the picture quality is clearer due to your own legs acting as suspension BUT two problems:
1) It was a right pain to always/consistently mount the camera (strong velcro used) in the same place to achieve the same/correct viewing angle ... i've got some lovely footage of the bikes speedo from early testing :D
2) It was annoying watching the saved footage as the camera view would always swing back and forth as my head did out on the trail, cross roads, see where other riders are, you don't realise how much your head moves/you look around all the time etc.

So I just got an atc2k (less investment in case of crash compared to archos etc and quality is acceptable on the whole, well pound for pound imo but others may disagree ....) and mounted it on the handlebars with cut up inner tube as a spacer/shock absorber. These unclip from the mount if you're worried about its security and also you know its always at the right angle (after initial setup/check footage) when you clip it back on. I used to keep mine in the backpack on rallies, then at the special stages clip it on with freshly cleaned lense. Cleaning I found was best with cotton bud sticks (nick em from your missus bathroom 'stuff' :D ) which I kept a few in the backpack as sometimes I left the camera on the mount and a quick wipe with a wet cotton bud and the lense was ready. I also made up a 'cover' for mine out of neoprene from an old cutup wetsuit, which protected it from the worst of the weather/rain, the cover opens to reveal the lense and keeps the body clean - i got the idea for the 'cover' from oregon scientific own optional snowshoe for winter weather recording. Also most bikes you can mount the atc on the handlebars somewhere to get a clear shot out front whilst also having it 'out of sight almost' so no one knows, until you show them after wards .... or not as the case maybe :D

Have fun

Cheers
